Chefs in Training - Marinated Mozzarella
We had a fun time guessing what we would do this week. Many kids had the idea that we would make spaghetti or fry cheese, but instead we made marinated mozzarella balls. We started by smelling all sorts of herbs and spices and then deciding which ones smelled the best. We decided on thyme, basil, oregano, salt, and only a little bit of garlic. We ripped the leaves of basil into small pieces, and added teaspoons of the other herbs to the bottle. We then added the mozzarella to the bottle, and slowly poured in enough olive oil to cover the cheese balls. Using a long skinny spoon, we mixed the herbs and cheese in the oil until it was well combined. After we covered it with foil and left it in the fridge to marinate. Since we were actually having spaghetti for lunch, we added it to the tops of our sauce for a nice herb-y touch. Some kids only had one piece while others piled on the goodness. If you don't have spaghetti to eat it with, a nice crunchy baguette would do too.
