Chefs in Training - Deviled Eggs
This week, the cooking club made deviled eggs. This snack helped us practice a different type of fine motor skill, peeling. The children started by peeling the cooled hard-boiled eggs. This was easy for some and very difficult for others. Almost everyone needed some help starting to peel and even to continue. We lost some egg whites in the process so some of the eggs came out more scrambled then hard-boiled. After we finished peeling all the eggs, we separated the yolks from the whites. The yolks were put into a bowl where we proceeded to smash them into a pulp. After, we added mayonnaise, some mustard, and a bit of pickle juice and mixed them all together. We chopped up some pickles and added them to the mixture too. Finally, we added spoonful's of the mixture into the eggs whites to make our deviled eggs. The children enjoyed eating them right way as well as saving them for their parents.
