Chefs in Training - Soft Shell Tacos
This week, the Cooking club made soft shell tacos. Originally, it was just supposed to be veggie tacos. However, we added ham to the mix after discovering that the children insisted on including it. We used quite a rainbow assortment of vegetables: cherry tomatoes, carrots, white peppers, and spinach. All we were missing was some purple cabbage. The children took mini tortillas and spread a small about of cream cheese or mustard on it so that the veggies could have something to stick to. Then, they were free to choose what ingredients they wanted to add to their tacos. All the veggies were cut in thin strips so they would fold nicely. As you can see from the pictures, the children were very creative. The older group made a few more for their parents, but each child was allowed to snack right then and there. To complete the tacos, the children were given a variety of spices to choose from but they decided against it. After, they rolled the tacos and stuck them with toothpicks in order to eat them without such a mess. Each child ate their taco with such fervor and then demanded more, so it was a pretty successful snack. See you next week! :)
