Chefs in Training - Savory Waffles
This week, the cooking club made some delicious waffles! Everyone was very excited to get started and we were happy someone lent us a waffle machine. We hope we can use it later for more yummy snacks. We started out lesson by identifying the ingredients, sniffing some, and measuring out the correct amounts. We mixed whole wheat flour, baking powder, and a little bit of pepper together in one bowl. And then we mixed the wet ingredients in another: melted butter, eggs, and buttermilk. After, we combined them together and mixed in some parmesan cheese. Then we heated up the waffle griddle and started cooking! The children had fun measuring out the ladles of batter and putting them in the griddle. Once the waffles were cooked (the children were very impatient), we let them put on a bit of butter or cream cheese as toppings. We had neither batter nor waffles left by the end, and all children had happy smiles on their faces. Next time, we'll try some sweeter ones.
